The Labor Day accident two years ago at Mockingbird and Central was a heart-breaker. Newlyweds Erika and German Clouet, 24 and 23 respectively, were driving home from date night at the movies when they were killed in a broadside collision.

The guy accused of causing the accident is baby-faced 22-year-old Uriel Perez Palacios, a serial drunk driver.

And oh, by the way, he was also a drug trafficker for the Gulf Cartel and had moved some 150 kilograms of cocaine through Texas. He is serving a 30-year sentence in federal prison for that.

If he’s found guilty of intoxication manslaughter in the deaths of the Clouets, any sentence he receives will be served after his federal time. His trial starts today.
