By now everyone has heard the news that H-E-B/Central Market bought six Minyard Sun Fresh Market sites in Dallas, including the one on Mockingbird. Facebook feeds have been littered with posts welcoming the popular San Antonio grocer. But CBS DFW reported last night that neighbors expecting the H-E-B brand will be let down. H-E-B officials say the Dallas stores came as a package deal and the company is reviewing which locations will be turned into Central Markets. The other spots could be sold again.

Statements issued earlier in the day hinted that the company isn’t ready to commit to placing H-E-B Plus! stores in Dallas. District 9 Representative Mark Clayton posted a statement from H-E-B on his Facebook page. It says, “This was strictly a real estate transaction as Sun Fresh was looking to close some store[s]. We are currently evaluating which of these locations will become Central Markets.”

Todd Piland, H-E-B’s executive vice president of real estate, says in a story posted on Supermarket News (yes, it’s a real site) that, “We are currently evaluating the feasibility of each site to determine the most effective use of the properties. At this time, Central Market continues to be the primary format for the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.”

H-E-B/Central Market has not responded to multiple requests for information.
