Buried at the bottom of a three-question interview with DISD’s chief academic officer Denise Collier on Sunday, the Morning News reported that DISD is piloting a program in 20 elementary schools designed to eventually allow all elementary children to become "completely literate" in two languages by the end of the 5th grade. That’s a tremendous idea and a great reason to wish my sons were just starting elementary school these days. Here’s hoping DISD stays locked-and-loaded with this idea long enough to implement it district-wide and doesn’t succumb to the usual pressures of TAKS tests, unhappy parents, lack of money, etc.
