Last year, arts festival founder Stephen Millard cited economic conditions and security concerns as a few reasons why the event would end. It began in 1994 as a free event featuring performing and visual artists.

But this year, the 150th anniversary of Deep Ellum, there’s a new event, hosted by the Deep Ellum Community Association. The arts fair, planned for May 27-29, will highlight artists, performers and entertainers, offering visitors a weekend of exhibits, concerts and food.

The fair will be on Crowdus Street and will welcome 400 artists, performers and vendors, according to the event website.

Local artists who work in painting, photography, ceramics, digital, leather, jewelry, glass, metal, sculpture or other mediums can apply to be included in the fair. The deadline to apply is April 3.
