This August 1976 story about Dallas school zones from WFAA is as timeless as bureaucratic miscommunication.
The school board had moved its elementary release time back 10 minutes to 2:20 p.m., without giving the city enough time to to change its hundreds of 20 mile-per-hour speed zone signs that took effect at 2:30, before the start of school. This was before we had the flashing lights.
The historic landmark Davy Crockett School, now The Principal Residences in Old East Dallas, is photographed in the story, which has great ’70s street scenes featuring gas guzzlers and pedestrians on streets we couldn’t place. Do you recognize them?
