If you’ve ever wondered how in the world the Morning News decides what Dallas public schools story to run on the front page, the metro page, an inside page or nowhere at all, here’s your chance: DMN editor Bob Mong is speaking to a Friday, Jan. 11, meeting of the Public School People group, which is open to anyone who would like to attend. When I talked with Bob a few weeks ago to set this up, he said he would probably bring along one of the paper’s education reporters. The format will be 20 minutes or so of comments from Bob about the paper’s education coverage and 30 minutes or so of questions from the crowd. This is a come-as-you-are, bring-your-own-lunch meeting that begins promptly at 11:30 a.m. and ends promptly at 12:30 p.m. at the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce office, 10707 Preston at Royal (the southwest corner behind the bank buildings). Bob and I actually started working at the DMN at roughly the same time many years ago, and now he’s in charge and I’m, well, not. He’s a sharp guy with an interesting perspective, and he’s the guy who heads the DMN’s staff of writers and editors. Hope to see you there.
