The district gives this honor yearly to the top 10% of principals of neighborhood elementary schools, neighborhood secondary schools and choice schools.

Recognizing master principals is part of Dallas ISD’s Theory of Action, an organizational philosophy that delegates functions and autonomy to central staff and individual schools and sets a way to rate and measure schools using a Local Accountability System. The Theory of Action also dictates how the district makes decisions that affect student achievement.

For the 2022-23 school year, 23 principals received this designation, including 14 from elementary schools, six from secondary schools and three from choice schools.

Award recipients were announced Dec. 13 and will be recognized at a ceremony in the spring.

The principals from East Dallas schools are:

  • Margaret Huff of Mockingbird Elementary School
  • Marissa Limon of Dan D. Rogers Elementary School
  • Brittany Thompson of Lakewood Elementary School
  • Ryan Bott of Bryan Adams High School

Campus teachers of the year were also announced in December. On average, they have nearly 12 years of experience.

Each of the teachers can apply to win a district teacher of the year award. A selection committee will determine nine finalists in three categories (elementary, secondary and choice/magnet schools), and one teacher will be selected for each category.
