Authorities investigate candidates’ fight over campaign signs in East Dallas

Police are investigating after a dispute arose between two Dallas City Council candidates over campaign signs in East Dallas.

District 7 candidate Yvette Gbalazeh claims her opponent, incumbent Kevin Felder, “trespassed and vandalized private property” with his campaign sign at a car repair shop in Far East Dallas. Gbalazeh told the Dallas Morning News that her friend asked her to take down Felder’s sign and replace it with hers.

The dispute arose when Gbalazeh said Felder tried to steal his campaign sign from her friend’s truck and pushed her when she tried to retrieve it.

Police responded to the disturbance at John West Road and North Buckner Boulevard, but the candidates were no longer there. Both reported the incident to police, according to the Morning News.

Man wounded in East Dallas shooting

A man was shot early Wednesday in East Dallas, police said.

The victim was shot in the abdomen just before 1 a.m. Officers said they found him in his vehicle in the 500 block of South Carroll Avenue after a witness called authorities.

The witness told police she thought the man was going to crash as he drove erratically up to a tire shop.

The Dallas Morning News reported that the man told police he had been shot at another location, and officers searched an area around South Second and Fitzhugh avenues near Fair Park.

The victim was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. No suspect had been identified at the time of the report.
