Police have a suspect in at least one of the recently reported East Dallas sexual assaults in custody.
Police reportedly have charged 22-year old Jose Portillo with capital murder in the September 7 death of Jimmy Donawho, 63.
Police have not yet filed a sexual assault charge against Portillo, but the Morning News reports that they are expected to do so in connection with the rape of a woman who lives on Martel Avenue, which occurred later the same day as Donawho’s slaying.
They have not said whether Portillo is linked to an earlier attack on Gaston Avenue, which was similar to the M Streets attack.
Portillo was arrested after trying to assault a woman at a Spring Valley apartment. She fought him off and spurred a police search. Police located Portillo, who matched the victim’s description as he was engaged in another altercation. A gun in Portillo’s possession connected him to the aforementioned murder.
