A coyote reportedly chased two children on the southwest side of White Rock Lake on Thursday.
The incident, in which the children sustained minor injuries, happened at about 8 p.m. April 24 in the area of White Rock Creek Trail, White Rock Road and Winsted Drive, according to a City of Dallas press release. The coyote was chased off by a parent.
An investigation is underway. City of Dallas Animal Services and park officials are trying to locate the coyote. Animal Services also put out coyote warning signs in the area on April 22 and is advising people to be aware of their surroundings and keep their dogs on leashes.

Yelling, waving your arms and throwing things near a coyote can usually scare them off if you find yourself face-to-face with one, according to a previous Advocate post. Dallas Animal Services’ website also warns that coyotes may hang around humans if there’s a chance of food, like in unsecured trash, bird feed or pet food. Limiting these coyote meals can help keep them away.
You can call 469-676-9813 if you see a coyote. If the animal appears to be sick or injured, it’s best not to interact with it and call 311 instead.
