Dallas Animal Services has released advisory statements regarding how best to operate amidst coyote mating season. The mating season for coyotes begins in mid-January and concludes in early March. This information can be especially helpful to those in areas of our neighborhood such as Lochwood, which has had several coyote sightings in the past few months. Check out the highlights.
Sightings
During this season, residents should be expecting coyotes to be more visible and more vocal as they are aiming to protect their territories and families. They may be willing to venture into yards and neighborhoods as they search for food and adapt to life near humans.
For those with dogs & pets
Residents with dogs are advised to always keep their dogs on a leash and supervise pets when enclosed in a fenced-in yard. Avoiding walking dogs along creek lines and empty fields is also advised.
How to respond when you see a coyote
If you spot a coyote, you can scare it away by yelling, waving your arms and throwing objects near (not at) them.
Neighbors can report coyote sightings by calling 469-676-9813. If a coyote appears sick or injured, call 311.
