A man known for selling cotton candy to late-night visitors in Deep Ellum has died, Central Track reported.
Leobardo Torres Sanchez was found dead where he lived Tuesday. The cause of death is not yet known.
Torres’ daughter, who lives in Mexico, said Tuesday on Facebook that her father lived alone and hadn’t been heard from in 20 days. A few hours later, she posted that the beloved vendor had been found dead.
A GoFundMe has been started to help repatriate Torres’ body to Mexico. It had raised more than $7,300 as of Thursday afternoon.
Torres was a fixture in Deep Ellum for nearly 10 years, according to Central Track. He could be found walking the streets with the crowd, peddling his sugary wares as a late-night snack.
