In effect until March 30, the state of emergency bans gatherings of more than 500 people in Dallas County. Groups of 250 or more people are discouraged but not prohibited.
This is a running list of events in our neighborhood that have been canceled or postponed because of coronavirus concerns.

Hollywood Santa Monica Home Tour
Home tour organizers are working on a plan to postpone the 29th annual event in accordance with Centers for Disease Control regulations that discourage large gatherings for eight weeks.
Mad Hatters Tea
The Mad Hatters Tea, The Art of Chic benefitting the Women’s Garden at the Dallas Arboretum has been canceled. In an email, Mad Hatter’s Tea chair Patti Flowers said, “Due to the unique nature of our event and the uncertainty of the duration of the virus, we feel postponing is not a reasonable option.”
Dallas Arboretum
The Dallas Arboretum closed Monday in compliance with the City of Dallas’ new regulation restricting gatherings to no more than 50 people and to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The policy is in place until further notice. “While we are closed, our staff will work diligently to maintain our grounds and essential services,” according to an email sent to members.
White Rock Home Tour
The 15th annual White Rock Home Tour scheduled for April 25 and 26 is postponed. Organizers are looking into alternative dates, according to the home tour’s website.
Munger Place Home Tour and Wine Walk
The Munger Place Home Tour and Wine Walk scheduled for April has been postponed. Organizers hope to reschedule for the fall.
Dallas Public Libraries
All Dallas libraries will be closed until March 20. Staff will be answering phones and responding to customer emails. When the library reopens, staff members will be unable to sanitize every item that is checked out from its branches. Customers are advised to wash their hands after handling materials and avoid touching their faces. The good news is that digital services are always available.
White Rock Farmers Market
The return of the White Rock Farmers Market on March 14 has ben canceled.
Dallas Park and Recreation Facilities
Effective March 14, Dallas Park and Recreation centers and facilities will be closed. All department-organized programs are suspended until further notice. Additionally, athletic fields will be closed for all reservations and organized play. All parks, golf courses and tennis centers will remain open at this time.
Munger Place Church Services
The church is canceling its public worship services March 15 and will deliver content via a livestream.
“This is not about you or me avoiding getting sick — this is about us caring for others and thinking proactively about our hospital system by deliberately slowing the virus spread, thereby keeping more people healthier longer,” the Rev. Andrew Forrest said in an email.
