PaintIf you’ve got a gifted high school artist at home, here’s your chance to put him or her to task showcasing that skill. It might just win you a trip to D.C.

Texas Congressman Jeb Hensarling invites high school students across the 5th Congressional District, which corners in East Dallas and Lake Highlands and stretches southeast past Palestine (view it on the map), to participate in the 2013 Congressional Art Competition.

“Each year, this exciting competition provides members of Congress the opportunity to showcase the artistic talents of high school students within their districts, thereby acknowledging our nation’s gifted young artists,” says Hensarling in an email.

The winning entry from each congressional district will be displayed in a special exhibit located in a corridor of the U.S. Capitol building, and the winning student and one guest will be invited to attend a special ribbon-cutting ceremony in Washington D.C. where his or her artwork will be unveiled.

If you’d like you get your student involved in the competition, contact Alexandra Collumb in Congressman Hensarling’s Dallas office at 214.349.9996, or contact Amy Gould in the Athens office at 903.675.8288. The deadline is April 26th, so your young Picasso has exactly a month to create  a masterpiece.
