boozeCentennial Fine Wine & Spirits is selling six more of its liquor stores, this time to Houston-based Spec’s.

The $4 million deal, which is effective this Sunday, will include Centennials in Addison, Big Daddy’s on Northwest Highway on the other side of Stemmons, and Preston Center. This will leave Centennial with four stores and a warehouse, but The Morning News reports those, too, will eventually be sold.

Centennial filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December. At first, its leadership hoped to restructure the debt and continue operating, but these days that option is looking less than promising.

A former Centennial employee says he attempted to keep the Preston Road location as well stocked as possible, using inventory from stores that had either been closed or sold, in hopes of a turnabout.

“Unfortunately, it has all been for naught… Spec’s will be taking over six of the 10 remaining locations as a part of the bankruptcy auction process,” he says, and added that he sees a “bitter end” on the horizon.

Peter Kern, the owner of Cheers Spirits and Liquors, a small chain out of Pilot Point, was interested in purchasing 13 of the stores in January. The deal was supposed to finalize in February, but we still don’t know how it turned out. Updates to come, once we find out more.
