The tricky neighborhood curve where Live Oak merges into La Vista and quickly disappears will have a new neighbor. The self-service car wash, long the landmark of this awkward intersection, is being replaced by an office building.

Erik and Sarah Hargrave, owners and occupants of The Cochran Building next door, purchased the car wash three years ago. Construction started this week on a two-story, 6,000-square-foot office building to house several Lakewood businesses, including Erik’s mortgage lending business.

The building will be brick and glass exterior and the new location for The Hargrave Group, a residential lender operating under the umbrella of Prime Lending. The Hargrave Group currently operates out of the second floor of the Cochran building.

Once The Hargrave Group moves into the new building, Sarah will expand The Collective, her 4-year-old interior design firm and art boutique on the first floor of the Cochran Building. The Collective will then be sole occupant of the 1927 vintage building the Hargraves bought and restored in 2016.

Construction is expected to last 10 months. Shelton Architects designed the building and Smoltz Construction will be the general contractor.

A car wash for an office building? Straight up? If only the Texas Rangers could muster a trade like that.
