All of this speculation on the library’s future might be academic (pun sort of intended). Apparently, relations between SMU and University Park are at some sort of low, thanks to disputes about how many students can live in a townhouse, the on-going discussion about widening Mockingbird, and a referendum to allow SMU to buy city land that might be needed for the library. For all we know, there could be a mass uprising in The Bubble, with residents telling SMU they value their privacy more than they want the library and forcing Bush to look elsewhere.

Of course, we don’t have these problems on this side of Central. The city doesn’t have the money or resources — let alone the inclination — to enforce code violations like University Park’s roommate ordinance. So, as a public service, I’m sure we would welcome any students thrown out of University Park. We have lots of empty condos in East Dallas, with more going up every day.
