DISD won the bond election — a story that might have caused us to overlook some very interesting goings on at one of our high school’s … if it weren’t for the New York Times printing this article yesterday. Apparently, Bryan Adams is participating in a high-tech pilot program in which chronically truant students have been court ordered to carry Global Positioning Systems to monitor their whereabouts during school hours. The innovative program is being financed by an outside equity investor so at least no spending issues here. I’ll be interested to see if forcing kids to go to school will make any difference — or will the chronic skippers just keep dropping out as soon as they legally can, wasting educators time and energy in the meantime?
