Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts will have 16 students take part in the Foundation 45 “Art of the Guitar” event on October 21st in Deep Ellum. The nonprofit organizations funds for mental health counseling services and aims destigmatize mental health issues, addiction, and suicide.

Out of 45 guitars, 16 have been transformed into unique artworks by Booker T. Washington HSPVA students to help advocate for musicians’ mental health. These guitars will be part of a live auction held at Life in Deep Ellum 2803 Taylor Street, at 6 p.m. Tickets bought in advance are currently $12 and will be $15 at the door.

Foundation 45 is committed to serving the Dallas/Fort Worth creative community by providing free top-tier mental health and recovery services.

The Booker T. Washington HSVPA Advisory Board maintains and awards the Frankie 45 grant. The Frankie 45 Fund assists Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts students in the Music Conservatory, with any necessary costs associated with their education while at Booker T. 

Foundation 45 will provide $2,000 a year, commencing with the 2023-2024 academic year, for 5 years – Totaling $10,000.

Art of the Guitar’s live auction will showcase 5 one-of-a-kind guitars. Each guitar donated and transformed into a work of art by a local artist. Along with the featured piece, auction winners will receive the stories of the artists and donors involved in the specific piece and the impact mental wellness has had on them. 

Featured guitars vary in condition, however each reflects the characteristics and style of each artist. It will be a night full of festivities and an opportunity to connect with local artists in the community.
