Bridge the Gap Chamber Players is an organization that includes musicians from Southern Methodist University. The organization has previously partnered with the shopping center for “Music on Mockingbird” performances.

The concert is being held in honor of the composer’s 338th birthday. Thousands of musicians around the world participate in the annual tradition of playing Bach in public while declining donations.

In addition to the music, free sub sandwiches will be provided by New York Sub in Highland Park.

The free concert is scheduled for 4-6 p.m. March 30 at Mockingbird Station, 5307 E. Mockingbird Lane.

Dale Henderson, a New York City-based cellist, founded Bach in the Subways Day in 2010 and still leads the movement.

According to the Bach in the Subways website, Henderson started performing Bach Cello Suites in New York subways, hoping to increase classical audiences by allowing the public an opportunity to experience the music up close. Turning down donations, he instead provided postcards explaining his goal of sowing the seeds for future generations of classical music lovers.

One year later, in 2011, Henderson invited other musicians to participate, and they performed in different subway stations throughout the day. The movement grew from there, expanding to cities outside the United States.

University Crossing, KERA and WRR are event partners for the Mockingbird Station concert.
