We haven’t reached 100 degrees yet this year and we have had record rainfall, so I figured this must be a really unusual July, with lower temperatures in particular. Which shows just how inscrutable the weather can be.

The average temperature so far this month has been 84.45 degrees (add the high and low and divide by two). That’s not even close to the 10th coolest July on record — 81.5 in 1899. In fact, it’s quite normal, since the average temperature for July is 85.

I guess we’re so used to really warm Julys — last year was the ninth warmest on record — that a normal one feels good.
