Just in time for the season, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is hosting a Tomato-centric festival this weekend, celebrating all things pomodoro with demonstrations, vendors and live music.
On May 31, for the first year ever, the Arboretum will host “The Tomato Jam,” a mini festival full of — you guessed it — tomatoes. Entrance to the event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at A Tasteful Place, is included with regular garden admission.
Visitors can take photos with a 12-foot-tall tomato arch, browse heirloom varieties at the vendor market or enjoy a michelada from Gil’s Elegant Catering, all accompanied by live flamenco guitar music by Tomàs Sclar. At 11 a.m, noon and 1 p.m, chefs will provide live cooking demonstrations.
For those looking to brush up on their vegetable expertise, horticulture experts from the Arboretum will lead a guided tomato walk at 10 a.m. and a tomato talk at 2 p.m. Two STEM activities for children, ‘Is it a Fruit or Vegetable?’ and ‘The Tomato Lifecycle’, will also be offered. All educational activities will have ASL accommodations available.
For adult nonmembers, daytime admission to the Arboretum costs $25.95. To view ticket information, visit the Arboretum’s website.
