The neighborhood swimming pool is a summer classic, the place where communities have gathered to escape the Texas sun for generations. The tradition continues with the opening of the public pools at Tietze Park and Samuell Grand, which will be available for summer swims through Aug. 13.

Samuell Grand is open Monday-Thursday, 1-6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from noon-8 p.m. It’s closed Friday.

Tietze Pool is open Monday-Thursday, 1-6 p.m.; Friday from 1-8 p.m. and Saturday for noon-8 p.m. It is closed Sunday.

Admission for these city pools remains accessible to families at $1 for swimmers 11 and under, and $2 for those 12 and up.

After the season ends, both pools will see major renovations. Samuell Grand is up first, with an $11 million overhaul that’s expected to wrap up just in time for summer 2018. Tietze will open for the 2018 season before the pool shuts down for renovation, to reopen with all new bells and whistles for the summer of 2019.

Last summer, we chronicled the history of public swimming in East Dallas, from White Rock Lake to neighborhood pools to desegregation, showcasing its long history in the city.
