The Lakewood Early Childhood PTA announced that 2013 was a record year for the Lakewood Home Festival, bringing in $150,000. It disbursed $95,000 to Lakewood Elementary, $40,000 to J.L. Long Middle School, and $15,000 to Woodrow Wilson High School. The most money ($25,000) was spent on Lakewood Outdoor Learning Area (LOLA) instruction, to develop an ongoing partnership with the goal of creating and implementing an outdoor education program. It was also spent on scholarships, technology, equipment and supplies.
- On Thursday, May 1, Ford Motor Co. car design sculptor Josue Maldonado will give Woodrow Wilson High School students a hands-on demonstration of his craft using a scale clay model of the 2015 Ford Mustang. Arts students and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Academy (STEM) students will participate. At the interactive event, Maldonado will share his tools and methods with students for a hands-on automotive design experience. He takes Ford designers’ sketches and translates them into miniature and life-size clay models. Designers then have a more realistic look at what their design will look like.
