Update: I just spoke with Laura Cox over at Cox Locks & Keys next door to La Calle Doce, where a fire broke out this morning. As of yet, the cause of the fire is unknown. Cox says the restaurant was hit harder than the lock shop, suffering severe interior fire and smoke damage. She says she hasn’t spoken with La Calle Doce owners, Laura and Oscar Sanchez, but she did express a great deal of concern for the family — they have a lot of work ahead of them, she says. As for Cox Locks, the windows are busted out (by fire and rescue workers); there is soot all over the place and the power is out, says Cox. But the damage is comparably small, all in all "we are very fortunate," she says.
After the jump, read the earlier post by Rick Wamre:
Early this morning, a two-alarm fire ravaged a good portion of La Calle Doce restaurant on Skillman at Live Oak (click here for a map), as well as damaging Cox Locks & Keys next door. WFAA reported on the fire this morning and has a couple of pictures posted; the DMN also has a more informative story including a quote from George Sanchez at the nearby Gold Rush Cafe. I drove by there early this morning, but the damage — primarily smoke damage, apparently — really isn’t that evident from the street other than virtually all of the windows at Cox knocked out. No word on the cause, although it appears that much of the damage was on the shared roof of the two businesses. We’ll try to get some updated information later today.
