Quite a few years ago now, neighborhood resident and entrepreneur Kurt Kretsinger decided that Mockingbird Lane between Abrams Road and White Rock Lake would look much better if a bunch of trees were planted in the median. So Kretsinger raised a bunch of money (we here at the Advocate helped by placing an insert in our magazine that raised quite a few thousand dollars, too), bought a bunch of trees and recruited neighborhood residents to plant and tend them over the years. Now, Kretsinger is looking for additional volunteers to "spruce up" the Mockingbird median Saturday, May 10, from 9-10:30 a.m. Among the jobs to be handled: trimming trees, working on tree rings and cutting off suckers growing around trunks. Bring trimming shears, gloves, shovels and drinking water; if you don’t have gloves or tools, Kretsinger will provide them. Meet at the first parking lot on the south side of West Lawther and Mockingbird as you enter White rock Lake Park. Questions: Call
