The two Dallas police officers involved in a collision near Peavy Road and North Buckner Boulevard are reportedly in stable condition.

According to Dallas Police Department’s social media posts, the Northeast Patrol officers were heading to an emergency call in a patrol car when the crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11. No information was available on what actually transpired during the wreck, but the patrol car was pictured having flipped over, and another driver and vehicle was involved.

The officers were transported to the hospital, but the driver in the other vehicle was not. 

The Dallas Morning News and Fox 4 reported that the patrol car had its lights on at the time of the crash, so whether DPD can be held liable for the incident by the other driver is unclear. Texas’ Civil Practice and Remedies Code on governmental liability states that the chapter on tort claims does not apply to claims that come from government employees acting or reacting to emergency situations as long as they’re complying with laws and ordinances related to the urgent response. This is also the case if the employees are not acting “with conscious indifference or reckless disregard for the safety of others” in this context.
