“After 56 incredible years, it’s time to say goodbye.”
This is what Mockingbird Bridal Boutique, located between McMillan and Greenville Avenues and operating since 1969, posted on Facebook on Sunday, Nov. 30.
“With full hearts and so many cherished memories, we’ve made the bittersweet decision to close Mockingbird Bridal forever at the end of December,” the post continued. “After 56 wonderful years of helping thousands of brides say ‘yes’ to their dream dress, the owner is retiring, the building has sold, and it’s time to turn the page.”
This news was announced alongside a closing sale — 50% off on all gowns through Dec. 31 “(or until the last dress is gone),” and no appointments are needed.
Mockingbird Bridal Boutique was founded by Helen Shelton and is currently owned and operated by her granddaughters Amber Harris and Ashley Pappas, who are now retiring, according to a follow-up press release.
“Mockingbird Bridal has been my life’s joy for over 56 years,” Harris said in the press release. “Watching generations of brides — and often their mothers and daughters — find the gown that made them feel truly beautiful has been the greatest privilege. While saying goodbye is bittersweet, I’m filled with gratitude for every bride, every tear of joy and every ‘yes to the dress’ we’ve shared.”
“This store is more than a business; it’s our grandmother’s legacy and our family’s heart,” Pappas said, also in the press release. “We’ve helped create countless love stories, and now we’re ready to send our final gowns to the brides who will continue writing theirs.”
