A tree fell from a neighbor’s yard into the street in the 3200 block of Wendover Road, east of Lakewood Elementary School, and landed on an SUV, Dallas Fire-Rescue public information officer Jason Evans confirmed.

Dallas Fire-Rescue units were assigned to the situation after 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, Evans said in an email. The woman who was driving the SUV was pinned under the tree. She was extricated from the vehicle by the Urban Search and Rescue team and taken to a hospital “in serious condition.”

Evans said the driver was the vehicle’s only occupant.

Lakewood Elementary School’s dismissal process and bus routes were adjusted to avoid that area, Dallas ISD Strategic Media Relations Director Nina Lakhiani said.

The Facebook page Lakewood Elementary – PTA Administrated reported that power at the school was out because of the tree incident as well as because of construction on Sondra Drive. Afterschool programming was canceled.

The injured woman is Maisie Evans Marsau, mother of a 6-month-old baby. Marsau’s friends and family set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for her medical bills and rehab, mobility equipment and care support, and anything that’s needed to maintain stability amongst her baby and family during this time.

The GoFundMe page reports that the incident caused severe spinal cord injury to Marsau, who had to undergo major surgery before landing in the neurological ICU.

“Her survival is truly a miracle,” reads the GoFundMe page. “Any donation, or simply sharing this campaign, will make a difference for Maisie’s family as they begin this journey together.”

As of the evening of Aug. 27, the GoFundMe has raised $88,729 with a goal of $150,000. To give, click here.
