If you’ve been looking to expand your family with a furry friend, there are plenty of events for you this weekend. Local shelters and rescue groups will have dogs and cats available for adoption at several places in our neighborhood:
- Dallas DogRRR (Rescue. Rehab. Reform.), which we profiled in our pet edition last year, will have adoptable pooches at LG Taps, 3619 Greenville Ave., from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday.
- The Street Dog Project will be at Hollywood Feed, 2031 Abrams, with homeless dogs from noon-3 p.m. on Saturday.
- DFW’s FurGotten Friends will have even more adoptable animals at Pet Supplies Plus, 6060 E. Mockingbird, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday.
Echo Theater brings us back to the 1930s with “Her Song” on Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Bath House Cultural Center. The traditional “Supper Club” format invites attendees to grab a café table for an evening celebrating music written by women in the 20th century. A dance floor, live band and bar complete the romantic evening. Tickets are $5-$15 and available here.
Actor, writer and New York Times best-seller Robert Knott comes to Half-Priced Books on Thursday to read from his latest works, “Robert B. Parker’s Revelation.” The book looks at Parker, a prolific author of the Spenser detective series. The discussion begins at 7 p.m. and is free to attend.
Wine, Women & Chocolate is the theme of the informal gathering on Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Times Ten Cellars. Hosted by Peacemakers Inc., the group is looking to expand its membership and will highlight their work in conflict resolution through education, action and communication. The cost is $25 for non-members.
White Rock neighbor Fredrick Jones offers the free performance “Fight for Freedom,” which is described as a “dramatization of being bound and freed by force. This drama shows how our memories are affected by being broken and captured.” The event is Thursday at 6 p.m. at the White Rock Hills Library branch.
It’s called “Eat” but it’s not about food. Opening this Friday at the Dallas Children’s Theater, the theatrical event looks at eating disorders in teenagers as it follows 14-year-old Amy through her own struggles with hospitalization and recover. The show runs Feb. 10-18 and is recommended for youth 12 and up. Tickets are $16 and available here.
