The event “8.46 walk for change, equality, and love” raised money for the Black Lives Matter foundation and symbolized the eight minutes and 46 seconds that former officer Derek Chauvin pressed on Floyd’s neck.

Before the event, organizers Natalie Sevilla and Nathan and Taylor Lewis sold more than 100 T-shirts. But to their astonishment, more than 200 people showed up to walk.

“We didn’t know what to expect,” rising senior and East Dallas resident Nathan Lewis said. “Two hundred people came from all around Dallas, and some joggers and cyclists on the trail even joined in. We had ages there from 10 to 84 years old,” Lewis said.

Even in the heat, walkers carried signs and walked the entire distance.

“I believe that if people continue to do the little things and advocate for change in their own communities, then we can really start to see change in our entire country,” Lewis said.
