Sundown at the Granada

Join us this Thursday, July 13 for our East Dallas Trivia Night hosted by us here at the Advocate along with Sundown at the Granda. We are calling all East Dallas aficionados and neighbors who know details about the neighborhood’s history, geography, culture and politics. Teams of two-to-six players will compete for a variety of prizes, including free tickets and gift cards, as well as the first ever East Dallas Insider Award. Teams can register in advance here for an additional prize, a team name sign and priority seating at the event. Teams are welcome to join the night of without registering beforehand, and spectators are welcome to come watch the fun. Doors open at  7:30 p.m. and games begin at 8:30 p.m.

Speaking of Sundown at Granada, its summer movie series continues tonight, July 12, with a free screening of comedy “Superbad” at 8:30 p.m.. The Eats Blog is hosting the event and revealing specialty cocktail: the “McLovin.”

The Bath House Cultural Center is hosting the nineteenth annual Festival of Independent Theatres starting this Friday, July 14, until Saturday, Aug. 5. The festival showcases individual theatre companies and gives them a chance to display some of their work. Theatre companies Bootstraps Comedy Theater and Risk Theatre Initiative will be presenting their plays on opening day. Festival passes start at $63-$73 and single tickets are $20. Boogie down this Friday, July 14, for Disco Kids at It’ll Do. This dance event from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. is for all kids and parents who love to dance. Yummy Pizza and Big D Kona Ice  will be selling their goods and the Photo Van will be there to capture the night’s best moments. Admission is $5 for kids and free for parents.

Come down to The Wine Therapist for wine and live music by Damon K. Clark. Clark will be doing new music, both covers and originals, never done in Dallas. The concert begins at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 14.

Truck Yard is presenting their third annual Luau: Loco for Coconuts. Enjoy a cocktail served in coconut and eat roasted pig for dinner while dancers perform with fire for entertainment. This summer event starts at noon until closing on Saturday, July 15. While lounging at the luau, come show support as Truck Yard also collects backpacks, other school supplies, and monetary donations for children in foster care, hosted by Friends of Friends Young Professionals, on Saturday from noon until 5 p.m.
If you are in need of a furry friend, join Cody’s Friends Rescue at Hollywood Feed for an adoption event this Saturday, July 15, from noon to 4 p.m. Their Rescue Adoption Bus will be on-site for you to meet your future pet and t-shirts will be on sale to support animal rescue.
