Way down the street from the hip Henderson quadrangle that Christina mentioned below, a new crop of restaurants and shops are springing up, many of them in a strip center at 2323 N. Henderson. Last weekend my husband and I decided to try out one of those eateries, Fish City Grill.

We ordered the blue crab stuffed mushrooms to start, and weren’t disappointed. Our main orders were the combination seafood platter with fried shrimp, fried catfish, waffle fries and apple cider coleslaw, and also grilled trout topped with bruschetta. The shrimp was incredible — lightly breaded and tasty. And when we discovered that a shrimp basket and waffle fries is only $5.99, well, that’s going to be my order quite often. I also loved the tangy taste of the apple cider coleslaw, which was crispy and not over-mayonaissed.

The trout, one of that evening’s specials, was just OK. (To my server’s credit, she did recommend the crab stuffed shrimp, but I wanted grilled fish.) The bruschetta topping with tomatoes, onions and parmesan was the best part, but even that was lackluster. The sides, however, somewhat redeemed the dish. My server recommended feta mashed potatoes and fried zucchini, good suggestions both.

If you want to try something a little different this weekend, the restaurant is having a big crawfish boil on its patio this weekend, Saturday, March 15. Live music starts at 5 p.m.
