Architect Russell Buchanan was accused in the 1984 rape and murder of SMU student Angela Samota. He never was charged with the crime, but police repeatedly interrogated Buchanan, who was 23 at the time and living in an apartment on Matilda.
DNA evidence identified Samota’s killer, Donald Andrew Bess, in 2010, and he is on death row now.
FD Luxe has the fascinating story of Buchanan’s ordeal and that of Samota’s college pal, who pushed Dallas police to find her friend’s killer decades after the fact.
Buchanan owns an architecture firm on Greenville Avenue, and he and his wife, Karen, lived in Lakewood for many years before moving downtown recently.
