The person was pronounced dead at the scene, Dallas Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer Jason Evans said. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet determined the person’s cause of death.

Dallas police officers smelled smoke as they were reporting off-duty and alerted dispatch, Evans said. The officers then found the home in the 3100 block of Bryan Street, near Exall Park, where the smoke was coming from.

Firefighters, who were dispatched around 3:20 a.m., arrived at the location and found smoke coming from the one-story house. Conditions evolved, and fire soon began coming through the roof.

Neighboring homes were evacuated, but firefighters were able to contain the blaze and isolate the damage, mostly in the attic, Evans said. The fire was extinguished around 4:30 a.m.

Besides the person pulled from the house, whose identity has not been announced, no other injuries were reported, and the neighbors were able to go back into their homes.

The cause of the fire will be listed as undetermined, pending the determination from the medical examiner.
