Woodrow Wilson High School’s annual fall mini-school always concludes with the announcement of the spring musical, and “Thoroughly Modern Millie” will be taking the stage this spring.

I missed the Monday evening announcement, but freshman parent Lucie Pound reported that the crowd of parents and choir students was a little subdued, probably since “Millie” — based on the Roaring ’20s — isn’t necessarily on the tip of youngsters’ dramatic tongues in these days of digital communication and reality shows. The story originally was written for film by Riuchard Henry Morris, who also is known for the Broadway classic “The Unsinkable Molly Brown”.

Morris’ original 1967 “Millie” film starred Julie Andrews, Mary Tyler Moore and Carol Channing singing, dancing and chatting their way through the movie. The show was named Best Broadway Musical in 2002. Auditions for parts in the show will be held later this fall.

Before this school year’s musical can begin, though, Woodrow’s drama department is asking for help to remove the vestiges of last year’s — apparently, a fairly large portion of the Rydell High set from “Grease” needs to be hauled off after school Thursday, so you are welcome to show up with a wheelbarrow and some gloves to help dismantle the set.

John Beard will lead the school’s dramatic effort with “Millie”, and parent Laura Graham will be musical chairman, which involves coordinating for the show.
