It’s that time of year again.

This time around, Lucas will run the 48-hour Ultra Centric Experience — an annual event in which participants vie to run the farthest in a set amount of time — for the Woodrow Sweethearts. He says he wants to help the drill team earn enough to participate in the nationally televised Children’s Medical Center Holiday Parade in December.

Last year Lucas entered the 24-hour challenge and ran close to 60 miles, earning dollars per mile for the high school band.

This time, he’s being less of a sissy and doing the 48-hour race during which he will attempt to tackle 80 or more miles — like three marathons.

“I’ve never gone over 60 miles,” Lucas says, “but plus or minus, I will go until they say stop or until I fall down, whichever comes first”.

The Sweethearts Booster Club is now collecting pledges, to be paid post-event, for each mile Mr. Lucas can throw down. So for example, you could pledge a dollar a mile or 50 cents a mile — whatever you think you can handle. Maria Wingenton is taking the pledges. Call her at 469.398.9611.
