Punditry is not rocket science – if we can do it here, anyone can do it. So that’s why we’re holding the first Back Talk Mayoral Prediction contest, with a real prize. The rules are simple. Just e-mail to mayor@advocatemag.com who you think the top three finishers will be, with percentages, in the May 12 mayoral election. The person who comes closest to the actual results gets $50 in gift certificates from either St. Pete’s Dancing Marlin, Papou’s Greek Kitchen or La Parridilla (winner’s choice). Deadline is 11:59 p.m. on May 11.
A couple of other points: Decision of the judge is final in case of ties, close calls or similar events (and Advocate publisher Rick Wamre, who has tussled with lawyers his entire career, is the judge). You can enter more than once, but don’t overdo it. Five or six entries is OK; 18 is not. The contest is open to anyone who sees this, whether they live in Finland (where we apparently have a reader or two) or Seagoville or work for D magazine or Dallas’ Only Daily Newspaper
