You may want to rethink your plans at White Rock Lake this weekend.

About 1 million gallons of organic waste could flow into Dallas’ picturesque lake, according to a press release from the North Texas Municipal Water District. A pipe broke Wednesday at the water district in Plano and released the waste into White Rock Creek.

A contractor who bored into the wastewater transmission pipeline caused the overflow, which traveled 1 mile to White Rock Creek, the release said.

Now it’s headed for the lake and could be a fatal blow to many fish, City Councilman Mark Clayton wrote on Facebook. The smell may not be all that enticing either. The dog park could close, and several activities may be off limits.

The NTMWD has repaired the pipeline and begun clean-up efforts. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
