Big news — California-based Dog Fancy magazine yesterday announced its picks for America’s Best Dog Parks. The winner? (Can I write this on G Rated Back Talk?) Jackass Acres K-9 Korral in New River, Ariz. Not surprisingly missing from the list is the White Rock Lake Dog Park. Sure, our neighborhood dog park qualifies — to be considered the parks must have fencing, double gates and free clean up bags. Check. Unfortunately we fall short on some of the judging criteria such as parking availability (if you’re looking for a parking spot on a sunny Saturday you’re looking for a fight) and accessibility (can’t exactly call a park that’s underwater any given day "user friendly").

Don’t think I’m talking trash about our dog park. When it’s not doing its “lost city of Atlantis impersonation”, the White Rock dog park is a blast. There’s plenty of space to run and play and make friends … and the dogs seem to like it too.
