In need of some ideas of what to do this weekend? We’ve got you covered.
It might be difficult to believe, but Jimmy’s Food Store opened 50 years ago this month. The neighborhood gem at 4901 Bryan first started serving customers in August 1966. To celebrate the gold anniversary, the store is giving away prizes every weekend starting this Saturday until Sept. 17. The first drawing will be held at 1:30 p.m.
Take a group of deadly serious actors with varying degrees of ineptitude, throw in all sorts of mistakes, miscues and mayhem, and you end up with a hilarious evening of goofs, gaffes and guffaws. The Pegasus Theatre’s “The Coarse Actor Rises!” by Kurt Kleinmann will premier at The Bath House Cultural Center at 521 E. Lawther on Thursday, Aug. 11. Tickets are $15 for the 8 p.m. showing. The play will run until Aug. 27.
The Lakewood Library has a program to help your young kids refresh their math skills before the start of school. Math March will be held at the library at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The free educational event will begin with a reading of “Bedtime Math” by Laura Overbeck. After that everyone can play Crazy Creature Census and Stuffed Animal Parade.
Tietze Splash, the annual pool party that wraps up swimming season for Dallas public pools, will be on Saturday, Aug. 13. The neighborhood pool party is from 6-8 p.m. and will include music, food, refreshments and, of course, swimming, so make sure to bring your noodles and rafts over to the pool. This year donations will be accepted for the Dallas Fallen Officer Foundation. Tietze pool is located at 6115 Llano.
There are only three weeks left to get your photo submitted for the 2016 White Rock Lake Conservancy Photo Contest. Photos must be turned in by Sept. 2, so get out on the lake this weekend and snap some pictures.
