When I woke up Tuesday morning and decided to take a shower, I noticed that the water pressure was pretty low. As any longtime homeowner in the Lakewood area, my first thoughts went to the amount of money that I would likely be spending to replace a water line somewhere (hopefully outside the house). Then, when I saw my neighbor out picking up his newspaper, I asked him whether he was having any water problems — he was, indeed, so we both congratulated ourselves on dodging a repair bullet, assuming that it must be a city water issue. Sure enough, by late in the afternoon, the water pressure was fine.

What we didn’t know, until the Morning News called our attention to it, was that a massive water main rupture near Lakeshore between Lakewood Boulevard and West Shore unleashed a literal torrent of water and was flooding a few neighborhood homes. Neighborhood resident and longtime DMN editor/reporter Ed Timms is credited with the accompanying video, and it tells the story pretty well. Ed lives around that area, too, so he was Johnny-on-the-spot with the story. The video features a couple of neighbors talking about the issue and lots of running water shots. Note to Ed for the next time he gets the video camera out: When the Channel 8 reporters shoot video of something, they always manage to get themselves in the shot with a standup at the beginning and end, and they usually show a little bit of cleavage, too!
