Carol Hunt, a communications team member with the United States Postal Service, put it more eloquently.

“A vehicle recently struck the signage in front of the Lakewood Post Office,” Hunt wrote.

As of publication, Hunt has not provided an answer to when the sign was struck.

But on a second visit to the site, we noticed tire tread marks on the concrete. See below.

The tread marks run right into the bottom of the handrails, which seem to have been damaged in the collision. Of course, they may have been damaged in a separate incident.

Can we prove that the tread marks were there before the sign was struck? No. Can we prove that the vehicle that left the tread marks on the concrete was the same vehicle that struck the sign? Also no.

We’re not done investigating this incident, and we will continue to update as we learn more.

In the meantime, enjoy some neighbors’ comments.
