“The Lakewood area, when we first moved in, we kind of inherited a little quirky space,” says owner Jennifer Chitwood. “And it worked really well for a while, but now we’ve outgrown the space.”

Chitwood wants to stay in the area, so Uptown Yoga is relocating to another Lincoln Properties Company location down the road near the Gaston-Garland-Grand intersection, in the shopping center between Cane Rosso White Rock and the location where Ace Hardware is relocating.

Uptown Yoga has been in Lakewood Shopping Center since 2010, and although Chitwood wasn’t actively searching for a space, when Lincoln offered her a location in the shopping center with Cane Rosso and the YMCA, she jumped at the opportunity to have a bigger work space. Plus, she wanted to be closer to the Little Forest Hills area, she says.

The new space will be close to 2,500-square-feet, as opposed to 1,700-square-feet at the current location. There will be room for showers, more bathrooms and a larger studio. Right now, classes typically hold about 20-45 people.

“I’m hoping to increase that and be able to give everyone more space; make it a more comfortable space for everyone,” Chitwood explains. She’d eventually like to offer more class times as well.

Chitwood is hoping the space will be finished in about 60 to 90 days. They’ve been working on it for a few months, she says. “I’m in love with having a space that I can design myself, instead of trying to fit it into an existing space.”

Lincoln has not returned calls regarding the recent changes at Lakeview Shopping Center at Gaston-Garland-Grand.
