Actually, about 500,000 of them, on  5,000 strands covering 160 trees along Southwestern and Caruth Haven. They’re on a timer, and come on every day at 5:30 p.m. and stay on until 11 p.m, says the apartment company’s Chante Mayorga.

Three employees start putting the lights up every year around the end of September, and it takes six or seven weeks to get the job done. They spend the next couple of months maintaining the lights, which includes changing burned out bulbs. Then, it’s another six weeks or so to take the lights down.

Mayorga isn’t sure how long The Village has been putting the lights up — "as long as I can remember," she says.
