As you may have heard, I have decided not to seek re-election as trustee for District 2 in the upcoming election. Representing the kids of District 2 has been the honor of a lifetime, and it is with mixed emotions that I arrived at this decision.

School recognitions

Congratulations to Sudie L. Williams TAG Academy and George Bannerman Dealey Montessori Academy for being recognized among the Top 5 middle schools and elementary schools in Texas, respectively, by the nonprofit organization Children At Risk.

The awarding committee evaluated all elementary and middle schools in the state across three main areas: student achievement, campus performance and student growth. This is a recognition of the great work our students and teachers have done over the past year.

Meals will be available during spring break

Dallas ISD will be closed March 13-17 for spring break. However, to ensure that all of our students have access to nutritious food during this time, some schools will open for a few days to provide free meals for children younger than 18 and students up to 21 with disabilities. To learn more about the dates and the list of participating schools, visit www.dallasisd.org/FCNS.

Neighborhood Night Out

Coming up April 6 at 5:30 p.m., we will be showcasing our neighborhood campuses. You will be able to register for your campus and learn about the benefits of the schools right here in your neighborhood. For more information pertaining to this event, please visit our website at Dallasisd.org/neighborhoodschools.

Celebrating our student athletes

Nearly 20 student athletes from District 2 recently signed National Letters of Intent to continue their athletic careers in college. Congratulations to these outstanding young students:

From Hillcrest High School: Reed Malphurs, Trevor Cabell, Daishon Whitfield, Noah Osborne, Dre’Lynn Sewell, Reggie Williams, Ty Justice, Alexandra Walker and Yiselle Bernal.
