The FIRST STEP Men’s Program offers the same services as their women’s program through the application of 12-step recovery, at no cost. The men’s program will be housed 2100 Caddo St. and will operate as a two-week residential program for those seeking sobriety.

The house can accommodate up to 12 men with rolling admissions.

“While one in 11 women suffer from alcohol use disorder, one out of seven men do. To put that into perspective, based on the 2021 population of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, an estimated 400,000 men are struggling with alcohol in DFW,” Lisa Kroencke, CEO of The Magdalen House said in a news release. “This expansion will enable us to serve twice as many people while only increasing operational costs by an estimated.”

The Magdalen House helps individuals achieve long-term, sustainable recovery through the following spiritually based, comprehensive programs, the First Step Program, Next Step Program and community meetings.

About the programs:

First Step Program: A two-week, residential program for alcoholic women seeking sobriety. The house can accommodate up to 20 women with rolling admissions.

Next Step Program: A three-phase, non-residential program that provides support and structure for an alcoholic individual at any stage of recovery.

Community: Solution-focused meetings and workshops are open to all alcoholic individuals at any stage of recovery. Services are offered to women 365 days a year and the men’s schedule is available online. Additionally, Family Support meetings are available to the families and loved ones of alcoholics and addicts.

Resources and Education: Education about the disease of alcoholism and community partnerships that help connect alcoholic women, men, and their families to resources such as sober living, women’s and men’s health and counseling.

Since 2017, Austin Shook has been actively involved in the 12-Step
community and has sponsored new men in his time. As Director of Men’s Programming at The Magdalen House, he is responsible for spearheading the establishment and growth of the men’s programming initiative. By mirroring the existing women’s recovery program, the goal is to offer men the same quality programming.
