In its first six months of business, Little Havana drew in patrons mostly for its patio. Now it’s fast becoming a hot spot not only for its atmosphere, but also for its delectable Cuban cuisine. “We wanted to focus on the food,” says general partner John Leatherwood. “We wanted to change the whole perception of the location — make it not just a bar presence.” He is referring to the previous establishment, Mike’s Tree House, which was a nightclub. Leatherwood and executive chef Joseph Zornow have come up with some tasty treats to bring in a hungry crowd, including the ropa vieja, or old clothes, which is shredded flank steak simmered with tomatoes and peppers, and boliche, a stuffed pork roast cooked for 12 hours and served with mashed potatoes. And of course to wash it all down, in true Hemingway style, the restaurant offers up eight different flavors of mojitos.
