Several East Dallas streets will be temporarily closed this weekend as thousands of guests gather on Lower Greenville for the 40th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
The parade starts at 11 a.m. Saturday, with streets closing at 9 a.m. and reopening about 4 p.m. The 2-mile parade route begins at Blackwell Street and ends at SMU Boulevard. Additional roads may be blocked because of events following the parade, which is expected to draw more than 125,000 people.
The event has grown to be one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the country, with more than 90 entries and 1,700 parade participants, according to its website. Proceeds benefit the Greenville Avenue Area Business Association Scholarship Fund, which set a goal of raising $40,000 this year for Dallas Independent School District seniors.
Neighborhood associations, including Vickery Place, Lower Greenville and Greenland Hills, will install temporary “no parking” signs throughout the neighborhood Thursday. They will not take effect until Saturday morning. Cars in violation of the “no parking” signs will be towed or ticketed. There is no exception for residents, and they must display their “resident parking only” tags to park on the street.
Parade-goers are encouraged to ride DART and walk to the parade from the Mockingbird, Lovers Lane or Park Lane stations.
After rain and thunderstorms earlier this week, the weather Saturday is expected to be sunny and clear with highs in the upper 50s.
