Editor’s note (11:oo a.m. June 27): This story has been updated with information about the training’s completion. A previous version stated that the training had been completed, however signs alerting neighbors to the active training are still up. Dallas ISD did not clarify when these trainings would end.Â
Dallas ISD police are completing active shooter training at Solar Preparatory School for Girls.
According to the district, all Dallas ISD police officers are required to attend the annual training sessions.
“The goal is to ensure that Dallas ISD police are prepared to respond to an active shooter incident,” a spokesperson for Dallas ISD said.
The district uses the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training system developed by Texas State University to conduct their training. ALERRT was developed in 2002 and was named the National Standard in Active Shooter Response Training in 2013 by the FBI.
The district did not clarify if the Dallas Police Department was involved in the training, only stating that, “The training is taught by DISD Police.”
However, according to the Dallas ISD website, “Dallas ISD Police works closely with the Dallas Police Department to enhance safety across the district by: Conducting active shooter trainings with DPD and Dallas Fire Rescue.”
Other safety precautions and partnerships are also listed on the Dallas ISD website.
The Dallas ISD spokesperson did not say whether other schools would be hosting similar trainings this year.
